lostboys > I met this interesting fellow at a temple at Cambodia. I approached him and spoke to him a few phrases in their native language (I keep a little notebook with me). His name is "Ta Kia" and I'm not sure if that's how it's spelled. I would've loved to know more about him but there was a big language barrier. He looked like one of the caretakers of the temple.
lostboys > I met this lady at Siem Reap, Cambodia while taking photos. Her name is Michela and she's from Rome, Italy. She was real pleasant to talk to and she's a documentary director. I think she's the only documentary director I've ever met.
lostboys > This gentleman is Alex. He is also from Rome and was with Michela. He's also an interesting character, as he's apparently a TV and radio show host back at Rome. How cool is that?
lostboys > This man is Phuen. I met him at Siem-Reap, Cambodia. He's injured and lost limbs from a landmine explosion. Now he's going around selling books and things, which I admire, instead of just sitting around begging. Despite his hardships, I love the expression, his eyes and his smile.
lostboys > Meet Denise. I met this lady at the Cu Chi Tunnels tour at Vietnam. She's from Scotland and she works at a wildlife NGO called &quot;Free The Bears&quot;. We had a brief and pleasant conversation, a very nice person to talk to and she's got a real cool + admirable job!
lostboys > This is another interesting character I met at Vietnam. His name is Palasse and he's French. He was from Paris, fell in love with Vietnam at his visit and now lives at Saigon. He's an artist and runs a very cool t-shirt shop that I highly recommend. It's called Saigon T-Shirt Shop and the Papaya Shirts. More expensive but high quality and very good + unique designs. Not the usual cheap shirts that everyone has from the markets.
lostboys > Meet Ate Bing Trinidad. (Ate is a word used for respect in Filipino just like using Ms.). She makes sells Christmas themed lamps, lanterns, lights and parols along a street FULL of vendors in Manila. She's a very interesting person with a warm personality. She's from the province of Bicol and was very happy to meet "such a handsome young man". A parol is a star-shaped lantern that's very Filipino. Lots of different kinds of parols, different shapes, sizes, colors and lighting effects used.
lostboys > Meet Ate Nitz & Nel. (Ate is a word used for respect in Filipino just like using Ms.) They sell and make Christmas themed lamps, lanterns, lights and parols along a street FULL of vendors in Manila. A parol is a star-shaped lantern that's very Filipino. Lots of different kinds of parols, different shapes, sizes, colors and lighting effects used.
lostboys > Meet Kuya Bong Go. He's makes pottery for a living in Vigan, Ilocos. Vigan is the capital of Ilocos Sur, and it is a well-preserved Spanish colonial town. Kuya Bong's family does pottery at the Robby Pottery and his dad taught him the craft, just like his grandfather taught his dad. He's a really funny character with a great smile. It's interesting that he's actually 1/4 chinese, which you can tell with his slightly chinky eyes.
lostboys > Meet Ronald. He works at the pottery in Vigan that Kuya Bong and Robert also work at. He lives in Vigan too, is 18 years old and is in charge of the baking/heating of the pots that Kuya Bong moulds. Vigan is the capital of Ilocos Sur, and it is a well-preserved Spanish colonial town.
lostboys > Meet Robert. He works at the pottery in Vigan that Kuya Bong and Ronald also work at. He lives in Laoag, is 20 years old and is in charge of the baking/heating of the pots that Kuya Bong moulds. Youthful character with a nice smile. I love the lighting in the pottery, very dramatic stuff. Vigan is the capital of Ilocos Sur, and it is a well-preserved Spanish colonial town.
lostboys > Meet Mr. Victorio Sales. He's a kalesa driver in Vigan. Vigan is the capital of Ilocos Sur, and it is a well-preserved Spanish colonial town. A calesa is a horse-driven calash (carriage) used in the Philippines He's 78 years old and has been a kalesa driver since he was 18 years old. That's 60 years driving kalesas! He's been driving them since Quirino was the president in the Philippines. Although he works in Vigan, he's from a town called Bantay. His current horse shown in the photo is called "Arsadon". A really interesting person that surely has character. I love that he even posed the way he did. Not bad for a 78 year old!
